Found a short-cut when driving from Steamboat Springs back to Red Feather Lakes. A rarely used county road with grass growing on it. This is near Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge.

High Park Fire

This was taken from the ridge behind Shambhala Mountain Center where it overlooks the Poudre Canyon. This is a part of the western flank of the fire that is nearest to us. The fire burned almost 90,000 acres of land, destroyed hundreds of homes and was one of Colorado’s most costly wildfire costing almost 40 million dollars.

The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya, Shambhala Mountain Center, Red Feather Lakes, CO. This is a 108 foot tall stupa which took 13 years to build to house the relics of the founder of Shambhala: Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. This is one of the few stupas that one can go inside as there are 3 shrine rooms. This was a tricky shot to get the stars as well as a lit up stupa (along with a very bright moon), but managed to use HDR process with 3 stops between 3 shots. Something I want to try to improve are the sharpness of the stars. I think it’s my lens (the standard cheapo 18-55mm canon lens). But now, since this is literally 15 minute walk from my house, I will be experimenting a lot!

This is hours worth of filming time-lapses that I shot in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, to the streets of Denver, from 12,000 feet above sea level, to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, up early in the morning to staying up all night, from clouds and planes to stars and cars. This is how I want to occupy the world and share for others to see!

The edge of a massive “wave cloud” hovering all along the Front Range, with Meeker and Longs Peak in the background. Just shows how much the mountains effect weather!
